About Martin Wickham

Martin studied as a Fine Artist at Winchester School of Art. It was here that he began to develop a real passion for photography and he soon realised that he would have to decide whether to stay with Fine Art or choose photography as his chosen path. He chose photography and afterwards enrolled at Bournemouth College of Art and Design (now the Arts Institute) where he obtained a degree in Photography.
After working in various photographic labs and studios as a processing technician, Martin took his first Photographic Assistant job in the mid 1980’s working for a well-renowned studio photographer in Southampton. It was during this time that he gained an insight into the world of commercial and product photography.
Later, having gained a great deal of experience, Martin went solo and worked successfully as a Freelance Photographer. Unfortunately, like many others during the late 1980’s, Martin fell victim of the finance market crash. He managed to recover only to suffer a similar fate in the 90’s when a second crash saw the collapse of many surviving photographers and like them, Martin was forced to seek an alternative career to make a living.
During this time, Martin pursued his love for photography and continued to photograph people, friends, family and then their friends and family, further honing his portrait skills and quickly earning a reputation for taking flattering and creative portraits.
The Digital Revolution was well underway when Martin reached his 40th Birthday in 2004. Digital imaging technology had already started to replace film and embracing the latest digital cameras, Martin was spending nearly all his spare time involved in photography and improving his Photoshop skills.
Facing involuntary redundancy in 2006, Martin was forced to consider his future. Inspired by those who had praised his photography and with tremendous encouragement from fellow photographers, friends family, and relatives, Martin left his job in Estate Management and immediately re-embarked on his photographic career. He has not looked back since!
Today, Martin continues to make a name for fashionable, creative portraiture and is also starting to earn a reputation as a commercial photographer. The demand for his services has grown and he is currently seeking larger premises for his new studio.
Martin is able to undertake commissions for general, commercial, product, packshot, location and event photography.
Martin lives in Frome with his wife and two young children.
